MAXINE'S LEGAL JOURNEY

Maxine the Esquire

Maxine walks into her new career as a licensed attorney with a passion for advocacy and an intention to utiliize her skill set to the advantage of those who understand the value and power of the legal system, but do not always have the accessible capital, financial or otherwise, to avail themselves of the system's benefit.

After a rewarding externship with Legal Aid in the Probate Division during law school, as well as a number of of clinics, including Civil Rights, Immigration, and Estate Planning, Maxine started her post-academic legal career by working as an Associate at a Bankruptcy Firm and then as a Legal Project Manager at an Intellectual Property (IP)  Firm. She later continued as a Briefing Attorney with a large Personal Injury firm, and is now a Hearing Officer in the Appeals Division of the Texas Workforce Commission, performing administrative hearings for unemployment appeals cases.

She intends to leverage all of her previous experience - as a credentialed Human Resources professional, a certified mediator, a relationship coach, a writer, and a minister - to aid her in her new career.

Her areas of legal interest are Employment Law, Discrimination Law, Civil Rights Law, Public Interest Law, Disability Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Women's Interest Law.

She is confident that the best is yet to come.

Maxine's Mandates

Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31: 8-9

A C K N O W L E D G E M E N T S

LET IT BE KNOWN AND VERY CLEAR

There is NO WAY that I would be an attorney without JEHOVAH. And to accomplish this, JEHOVAH used three people in particular.

 JUNE W. JOHNSON   *   MARCUS G. McMILLAN   *  BARUCH W. TROTMAN

They loved me. Supported me. Sacrificed for me. Prayed with me and for me.

My mother gave me more than many people would give to an adult child. She has called me an attorney and much more since before I could vote. She put her money, her time, her faith, and her prayers where her words were.

I am blessed.

My husband sacrificed so much - emotionally, financially, professionally, and socially. He was a husband when I was too absorbed to be a wife. Saw way bigger and farther for me than I could see for myself. My covering and my friend, he decreed I would be an attorney when I wanted to give up.

I am blessed.

My son gave up so much of his fun time and grew up to  be a wonderful young man. Many days, he cooked entire meals for me. Held me while I cried. Told me it was done before I truly realized I had started.

I am blessed.
